Cannabis for Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV)

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also known as human herpesvirus 4, is a member of the herpes virus family. It is one of the most common human viruses. It is the virus that causes mononucleosis (“mono” or “glandular fever), and is associated with a higher risk of cancers such as Hodgkin lymphoma, gastric cancer and Burkitt lymphoma, autoimmune diseases such as multiple sclerosis, lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and childhood disorders such as Alice in Wonderland syndrome.

Cannabis can help treat many of the conditions associated with EBV, and can potentially treat EBV itself. Both THC and CBD have displayed antiviral properties, as has the cannabinoid CBG. THC may inhibit replication of EBV.
